Clean Eating Chex Mix
Barb: We do not have to give up our favorites when making healthy recipe choices. We do need to take a close look at the ingredients and make substitutions where necessary. I used a slight hand in the seasonings here, but you can increase the Worcestershire sauce and garlic salt if you desire more intense flavor. You might call this Chexless Mix. Party on.
4 cups Whole Grain Cheerios*
1 cup raw almonds
2 -2 ½ cups raw pecans
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons reduced sodium Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic salt
Melt butter and combine with seasonings. Place cereal, almonds and pecans in a large bowl. Pour butter mixture over cereal mix and stir well. Place mix in a large roasting pan and bake at 275 for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
Allow snack mix to cool completely then place in an airtight container.
*Whole Grain Cheerios is the best cereal we have found so far that is readily available, whole grain, low sugar and sodium, and does not contain the preservative BHT.
