Fruit Salad
“Don’t let it touch anything else!” This, my constant battle cry as my plate was passed from relative to relative, family member spooning child-size portions of Thanksgiving dinner on my plate. I remember other meals with my family when I would tear my slice of Wonder Bread and use the sections as barriers around each food item, guaranteeing that no two would touch.
It wasn’t that long ago that I didn’t even like mixed fruit salad. I preferred that each fruit stay in it’s own little section on the plate. Even if served as a mix, I would rebel and eat each fruit category separately. Then, one day, I discovered something great. It was a side order at Queenie’s, Tulsa, that did it for me. I don’t know if they always do this, but the fruits were cut into small pieces and all mixed together. The blend of flavors caused my prejudices to fall right off the table. So, come on! Let’s jumble up some fruit. Strawberries, apples, kiwi, grapes, all cut finely with blueberries added whole, drizzled with mix of lemon juice and raw honey. |
